Commentary – The Dilemma
I watched an interview with Ron Howard on The View. He said the idea for the movie came from a true life experience with his long time business partner, Brian Grazer. Grazer thought he saw Howard’s wife of 35 years, being extra chummy with a guy on the street. He could only see her from behind, so he made a point to keep following until he could see her face and assure himself that his best friend and partner wasn’t being cuckolded. Later he told Howard about the incident and it soon became a “what if” topic of discussion around the office. Similar to the water cooler talk back in…

Commentary – Country Strong
So after the PFS preview of Country Strong on Wednesday night, I was discussing the film with a staff member who felt the movie was too song oriented. I could tell he was not a Country Music fan, so I agreed with him and said I feel the producers of the film were more interested in selling a soundtrack than making a good movie, which I truly feel. What I didn’t say, was that I would be one of the people looking to buy said soundtrack. I was already on YouTube yesterday watching the music video of Gwyneth marching around in her red cowboy boots to the title track. And…

Commentary – True Grit, The Tourist, How Do You Know
I never liked John Wayne. His tough as nails, “The Duke” appeal never found resonance with me. The only Western I ever liked was Kenny Rogers in The Gambler. Yet, I can honestly say, I was very taken in by The Coen Brother’s remake of True Grit. I don’t know if the original movie had such bombastic and articulate dialogue, or hilarious statements of the obvious, but this artfulness was a good part of this movie’s appeal for me. It’s also less shoot’em up and more road comedy. Jeff Bridges is a hoot as one-eyed Rooster Cogburn and new comer, Hailee Steinfeld, Mattie Ross, puts the truth in True Grit.…

Commentary – Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader
… I also learned I’m not alone in confusing C.S. Lewis with Lewis Carroll . Answer.com provided this: Lewis Carroll wrote “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, “Through the Looking Glass”, and some other delightful tales of none sense. He was a mathematician who took delight in the daughter of a friend, Alice Pleasant and wrote his stories for her amusement. C.S. Lewis was a “Christian” novelist who used figures from various European mythologies to promote his beliefs. Lewis Carroll lived in the 1800’s while C. S. Lewis lived in the 20th century. If you believe in reincarnation, they could be the same person as Lewis Carroll (Dodgson) died in January 1898…
