The Next Step: Black Filmmaking in Philadelphia

I recently attended an event with a whole host of sponsors: The Black Film Advisory Committee, Councilman at-Large David Oh, Reelblack, The Greater Philadelphia Film Office, The City of Philadelphia, Radio One and The Painted Bride Art Center.  The event was called The Next Step: Black Filmmaking in Philadelphia. The idea, spearheaded by Kimberley Richards, Special Assistant to Councilman Oh, was to bring together aspiring filmmakers, with those who have experienced success in the business. And also to further examine the on-going challenges of being of color in an industry that is still primarily white.  I was surprised at the turn-out. It looked to be over 200 people in attendance.…

5 BEST FOODIE FILMS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

I had planned for my Valentine’s Day post to be a write up on the new Nicholas Sparks movie Safe Haven, but I had a major break with my best friend of 23 years (see facebook post) and never made it to the screening.   The movie looks super schmaltzy anyway. Poor Julianne Hough, she was so adorable and animated on DWTS, I would like to see her make it as an actress, but she’s only been in totally awful movies – Burlesque, Footloose, Rock of Ages, and from the trailers of this movie, I’m not sure about the chemistry between she and Josh Duhamel. Anyway, I’m happy to present a…

MERYL STREEP COSTUMES: DEVIL WEARS PRADA vs THE IRON LADY

Meryl Streep Portrays Both Style and Substance By Olan Ahern, Guest Blogger I had a writer contact me about doing a guest post for Tinsel & Tine, which is always cool!  She pitched a post on Award show fashions best and worst over the years. As much as I enjoy talking about red carpet choices in my Oscar and Golden Globe recaps, I feel this topic is covered so much better on television with video clips rather than a blog with photos. I did mention that if she wanted to zero in on one actress and examine the importance of wardrobe from one role to the next, that would be…

    Bahama Breeze Blogger’s Tasting

I’m always giddy when I get invites to events and screenings from unfamiliar PR Agencies; because it means what little I understand and try to make happen in terms of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is working! Last week the Caribbean influenced chain restaurant Bahama Breeze Island Grille invited food writers to come and sip their two new Legendary Island Cocktails: The pink drink Yaka Hula Hickey Dula, named after a Hawaiian love song, features pineapple juice blended with Meyers’ Dark and Bacardi 151 –  This drink was a bit strong for me, the bartender told me to stir it some more to bring out the flavors of the juice, but…

Guest Blogger: 18th Annual Critics Choice Awards Round Up

I had a great time posting stuff to facebook and twitter during the Golden Globe red carpet and awards! Check out both platforms for Tinsel & Tine’s thoughts on the show! My friend and guest blogger Candace Smith likes to tweet during awards shows too, when I saw her comments on The Critics Choice Awards,  I asked her if she’d write a Round Up post on the show for Tinsel &Tine, and she had plenty to impart: The People’s Choice Awards aired on Wednesday, kicking off the start to the 2013 awards season for the entertainment industry. However, I believe that the Critics’ Choice Awards truly kick off the season,…
