Film Review Flashback: Spotlight on Chicago’s Chicest Flicks
The Windy City plays host to some of cinema’s most memorable moments. From Hitchcock (“North by Northwest”) to Hughes (“Sixteen Candles”), Chicago gives California and New York a run for their money when it comes to movie magic. The movies filmed in Chicago reveal more than just a great setting, they show us the city’s evolution. Films allow us to see our history as it’s being written— through fashion, love, modernity, violence and society’s overall taste and development. ‘Sixteen Candles’ (1984) Molly Ringwald captivated an entire generation as John Hughes’ muse and resident “it girl” in the 1980s. “Sixteen Candles” exemplifies Hughes’ Chicago. A brash, sometimes cruel American City that…

Whole Foods Celebrates July Pies / Tinsel & Tine Celebrates Pie Movies
I make mention of cake a lot on Tinsel & Tine. In fact, if I had done my review of White House Down (which I didn’t do cause the movie was ridiculous, and Jamie Foxx & Channing Tatum have much better chemistry off camera than on) but if I had, I would have highlighted the scene where Walker (James Woods) enjoys a slice of cake right in the middle of taking 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue hostage. A small take out spot with 3 or 4 tables. They haven’t had time to make the place homey yet, but it is bright and clean and manager George Howell is ready to meet and serve the neighborhood.…

Candi’s Corner – Ahhhhhh! Zombies!!! Surviving World War Z
Reviews by Candace C. Smith The last time I enjoyed a movie with Brad Pitt was when I empathized with his voracious appetite in 2001’s Ocean’s Eleven. Watching him eat in just about every scene was one of the many highlights of that movie for my viewing bliss. Since then, I haven’t paid much attention to Mr. Pitt’s acting or believe it or not, personal relationships disseminated throughout the daily circus of celebrity blogs and TV infotainment programs. With his latest movie, World War Z, I have finally, once again taken notice of not only his acting ability, but his physical dexterity. In both American and British terms, the man…
