THE PURGE ANARCHY: Quick Chat with Actor Frank Grillo in Philly
Post Update 7/18 Some of my readers may know I was a huge fan of the daytime soap Guiding Light (click for post) Frank Grillo played an important character on the show (1997-1999) Hart Jessup who was involved with another favorite character, wickedly wonderful Dinah Marler (Wendy Moniz) I never knew until this week, when I saw a tweet from Wendy Moniz Grillo about The Purge: Anarchy that she and Frank Grillo got married! Which means they’ve been together for about 15 years. I love that 🙂 In terms of a really quick review of the movie: It’s definitely more the mayhem and mass chaos movie I imagined for…

Tinsel & Tine: Quick Philly Weekend Recap (Todd Douglas Bailey “Going Up”)
As I’ve mentioned, I moved exactly 1 month ago to West Philly from Mt. Airy and this past weekend was the first time I really took advantage of how convenient the 34 Trolley is to get into Center City Philadelphia – 15 minutes flat to go from 48th & Baltimore to 13 & Market! – So now there’s no more looking for parking, paying for parking or fear of meter running out and getting a ticket, no more expensive Regional Rail ride or driving to Ridge Ave to get the infrequent #9 bus, which sits in traffic on the Schuylkill (Rt 76) and most thankfully, no more taking the H…

Philly Spotlight: 2014 VENDY AWARDS Recap
The Vendys (currently celebrating 10 years) are like the Golden Globes for Street Vendors – fun, informal, plenty of alcohol, good eats, and at the same time, a very coveted honor! The competition takes places in New York, Los Angeles and Philadelphia, however, Philly joined in just 4 years ago. If you follow Tinsel & Tine you know last year about this time, I started a Food Truck series, where I profile Food Truck Owner/Chefs by asking these 5 questions: 1) How long have you been in the food industry? And When and Why did you decide to start a food truck? 2) Best elevator pitch – What sets…

Philadelphia Independent Film Festival: Quick Picks June 25 – 29
The Philadelphia Independent Film Festival (#PIFF @PhilaIndie) is in it’s 7th year of “showcasing a unique cinematic experience unrestrained by conventional boundaries”. The festival (hatched in 2007 out of the mediabureau.com film initiative) – annually programs 80+ films across 12 genres and produces or sponsors on average 6 film events a year. Last year, I did a little blogging for the festival and during the year kept in touch with two of the awesome programmers – James E D Keating & Melissa O’Donnell. Melissa is also an actress on the rise, who works with various directors on many Philly film sets, one such project will be screened during PIFF –…

Philly Spotlight: IHOUSE BRAZILIAN BARBECUE Recap
This past Saturday I was invited to partake of a Brazilian BBQ at International House Philadelphia @ihousephilly – what I love even more than smoked and seasoned meats, is the fact that now that I live in West Philly, IHouse (37th & Chestnut Streets) is part of my neighborhood! Every year the IHouse Board chooses a country to celebrate with a series of events. This year in honor of The 2014 FIFA World Cup they chose Brazil. You may recall Tinsel & Tine’s win an IHouse membership contest held in May was part of the Colors of Brazil Gala, previous to that was a Carnivàle and other assorted happenings, the…
