Baking Divas: SAVOUREUX’S New Baked Goods in Philly
You know I can’t help but highlight CAKE relevant things, especially when they are in my neighborhood. Breanna & Destiny are the baking team behind Savoureux’s, a new company specializing in delectable sweets. When I heard about these women getting both a business and a charitable organization off the ground, I knew they’d make for a great profile piece on Tinsel & Tine.

T&T: Breanna tell me a little bit about why you love to bake, and how you and Destiny came together on this new venture? Is she the business side and you’re the talent or do you both do the baking?
Bre: Our love for baking came from working at Hope’s Cookies. I worked at Hope’s Cookies (1125 E Lancaster Ave, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010) for 3 years and this is when I realized I could express my creativity through baking. So I brought my best friend, Destiny in to experience this joy with me. When we left Hope’s we realized how much we actually missed baking. The personal conversations I use to have with Hope and Herb Spivak really inspired me to start my own endeavor, and luckily my best friend held the same passion.
Destiny: We do both take part in the baking process. However, Bre decorates and I do the baking because Bre is very messy (laughs). She taught me everything I know, but if you know Bre you know she is all over the place. Bre also handles our advertisements, websites, mobile apps, social media, etc. Whereas, I handle the footwork; i.e. Inventory, handling orders, financial documents, etc.
T&T: Do you hope to one day have a brick and mortar bakery or would you like to have a food truck or caterer for events or all of the above?
B & D: Our ultimate goal is to have a bakery truck, cater events, and contract to other companies. Our long term goal is to have a mobile bakery in a few different states. We want to be the Mr. Softee of baked goods. We also will cater events because our talent scope goes beyond the kitchen. We also make centerpieces, balloon arcs, favor bags, and other custom pieces to make events special. Lastly, we would like for diners, markets, and food stores to sell our products as well.
T&T: What’s you’re favorite baked good to make? And what’s your favorite baked good to eat?
Destiny: My favorite baked good to make is cupcakes because of the appearance, versatility, and size. My favorite baked good to eat is chocolate cake.
Bre: My favorite baked good to make is marshmallow treats because I love to see people’s reaction when they cannot stop eating them. My favorite bake good to eat is s’mores brownies because I love how chocolate, marshmallow, and graham crackers compliment one another.
T&T: How did you both decide on the name Savoureux?
B&D: We wanted to find something elegant, different, and that gets to the heart of our product. Being as though we both took languages in college, we wanted it to be either Spanish or French. Since French sound better we decided to go with French. I know you’re probably wondering what does it mean? Savoureux’s means Tasty’s.
T&T: Since this is a film & food blog – If you could bake a birthday cake for any movie actor or actress, who would it be? And what’s your favorite movie featuring that person?
Bre: If I could bake a birthday cake for any actress it would be Taraji P. Henson (Be sure to check out Empire on Tinsel & Tine) because her drive is admirable to me. She let no obstacle step in her way of success and I truly relate to her. My favorite movie that she played in would have to be Think Like A Man 2 (click for T&T post) because in this film you really get to witness her sister/friendship with her co-stars. Sisterhood and women empowering women is a value I hold very close.
Destiny: If I could make a birthday cake for any actor it would be Will Smith (be sure to check out T&T’s Focus post) because I admire his ambition and intellect.
My favorite movie he has played in is 7 pounds because I found power in his selflessness. He planned his death to save others and that is very inspirational.
T&T: Now I understand you ladies are already giving back before you even make it big. Give me a little info on your charitable organization Save the Charms.
B&D: The goal of Savoureux’s is to produce sweets that make you think, and this goal developed after creating our organization SAVE THE CHARMS. Save the Charms is a social awareness movement that we want to use to bring unity amongst people and restore the community. To provide funding to our organization we are partnering Save the Charms and Savoureux’s. Each week Savoureux’s will have a specialty product in which 20% of the profit goes towards Save the Charms. With this money Save the Charms will host community events, create beautification projects, create food drives, and much more to restore the community and uplift the individual.
B&D cont: For the next couple months Save The Charms will focus on “Mission Save View”. View is an upward bound program from Villanova in which young girls are groomed to succeed in higher education, as well as learn the importance of interpersonal relationships. View used to be a residential program in which the girls would stay 3 weeks on Villanova’s campus to truly get a taste of college life. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts View has become a commuter program, and as a result has lost 10% of its participants. In order to stay on campus, View would need $50,000. Being a counselor for View for 5 years, I’ve realized the only way to succeed in a system built for you to fail, is if the adults in the community take a stand to ensure change. View being an affiliate of Save the Charms, has caused Savoureux’s to act in this fight for education.
