    The Lion King

    July 11, 2019 /

Tinsel & Tine #MiniMovieReview THE LION KING (Director Jon Favreau) “photo real” they’re not calling this one “live action” This movie was made in multiple ways – First in VR, and then animated, and then live action filmmaking techniques were used. It’s gorgeous! The production value is like “Jungle Book”, but stays closer to the look and feel of the original 1994 Lion King in many ways. Scar looks so much like the animated version down to the thin butt and raggedy ear, but he also looks so much like an actual lion. I have to do some more research on the making of, cause the blend of visuals is…

    YESTERDAY

    July 8, 2019 /

Tinsel & Tine #MiniMovieReview YESTERDAY (Director Danny Boyle | Writer Richard Curtis) I’m fascinated by The Mandela Effect – that phenomenon where a large collective of people globally remember something that didn’t actually happen. It’s named after South African President and anti-apartheid revolutionary, Nelson Mandela, because many people remember him dying in prison in the 80’s, from the announcement on the news, to watching the funeral service. But of course, this never happened, he survived prison, made a huge contribution as a political leader and died a peaceful death in 2013. The Bernstein Bears vs Berenstain Bears & Sinbad not actually having ever done a movie called Shazaam are two…

    Toy Story 4

    July 7, 2019 /

Tinsel & Tine #MiniMovieReview TOY STORY 4 (Director Josh Cooley) The opening sequence featuring that torrential downpour was just gorgeous, and so realistic, is there nothing animation can’t do incredibly well now? There’s no doubt Toy Story 3 was a super, well-crafted piece of storytelling, not good for animation, just good, and I would say #ToyStory4 comes very near to being as involving and as well written. And this one went through some upheavals before making it to the big screen – John Lasseter, former chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios & Pixar stepped down from his position, but was allowed to finish guiding this 4th adventure with…

    Spider-Man: Far From Home

    July 3, 2019 /

Tinsel & Tine #MiniMovieReview SPIDERMAN: FAR FROM HOME This is the movie we needed to assure ourselves that the MCU can go on despite the end of an era feeling of EndGame. We get to experience the aftershocks of recovering from the snap from the viewpoint of the younger generation, which gives us a fun High School movie wrapped inside a Superhero movie, relying on the humor that comes from teenage awkwardness. These movies get harder and harder to discuss without giving away spoilers. Every time I start down a path, particularly regarding comics long-time Spiderman nemesis Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), I have to veer away because if I talk about…

    MIB International

    June 17, 2019 /

MEN IN BLACK INTERNATIONAL directed by F. Gary Gray, did manage a #1 debut opening weekend, but with a disappointing $28.5M 😒🕶️ the movie’s not so much bad, as just completely lackluster. Such a shame cause Tessa Thompson & Chris Hemsworth are so good together in Marvel flicks, not sure why the magic didn’t transfer. MIB Int’l is just one of those movies where technically, there’s nothing wrong except there’s absolutely no spark. Which is difficult for me to admit, as I always wanna support black directors getting a chance at the big franchise $$$ – Gray does a very capable job, but there’s a big missing ingredient – passion?…
