    Toy Story 4

    July 7, 2019 /

Tinsel & Tine #MiniMovieReview TOY STORY 4 (Director Josh Cooley) The opening sequence featuring that torrential downpour was just gorgeous, and so realistic, is there nothing animation can’t do incredibly well now? There’s no doubt Toy Story 3 was a super, well-crafted piece of storytelling, not good for animation, just good, and I would say #ToyStory4 comes very near to being as involving and as well written. And this one went through some upheavals before making it to the big screen – John Lasseter, former chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios & Pixar stepped down from his position, but was allowed to finish guiding this 4th adventure with…

    Spider-Man: Far From Home

    July 3, 2019 /

Tinsel & Tine #MiniMovieReview SPIDERMAN: FAR FROM HOME This is the movie we needed to assure ourselves that the MCU can go on despite the end of an era feeling of EndGame. We get to experience the aftershocks of recovering from the snap from the viewpoint of the younger generation, which gives us a fun High School movie wrapped inside a Superhero movie, relying on the humor that comes from teenage awkwardness. These movies get harder and harder to discuss without giving away spoilers. Every time I start down a path, particularly regarding comics long-time Spiderman nemesis Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), I have to veer away because if I talk about…

    MIB International

    June 17, 2019 /

MEN IN BLACK INTERNATIONAL directed by F. Gary Gray, did manage a #1 debut opening weekend, but with a disappointing $28.5M 😒🕶️ the movie’s not so much bad, as just completely lackluster. Such a shame cause Tessa Thompson & Chris Hemsworth are so good together in Marvel flicks, not sure why the magic didn’t transfer. MIB Int’l is just one of those movies where technically, there’s nothing wrong except there’s absolutely no spark. Which is difficult for me to admit, as I always wanna support black directors getting a chance at the big franchise $$$ – Gray does a very capable job, but there’s a big missing ingredient – passion?…

    Late Night

    June 15, 2019 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Directed by Nisha Ganatra, written by Mindy Kaling, who for a time was the only female writer on The Office and was also an intern on Conan O’Brien, so she does have a lot of reality to bring to this comedy; which shines through, allowing the movie to be more situational humor and less jokes. Although writing jokes is a big part of what a comedy writer on a late-night talk show does, and often more or less anonymously. I’ve been reading this book “Just the Funny Parts” by female TV writer Nell Scovell, she wrote on everything from “The Simpson” “Monk” ‘Newhart” “Coach” “Murphy…

    SHAFT

    June 13, 2019 /

Tinsel & Tine #MiniMovieReview SHAFT directed by Tim Story written by Kenya Barris & Alex Barnow – I’ll keep it very short – it’s M’F’ing Summertime and this is a summer movie, so “shut yo mouth” if you’re looking for any signs of Blaxploitation or any signs of a decent plot. This is Samuel L. Jackson doing what he does best – be a bad-ass that just doesn’t give AF. Jessie T. Usher who I wasn’t sold on in the trailers, plays his son who didn’t grow up with his father in his life, other than receiving some rather inappropriate gifts from Daddy Shaft over the years. Despite not being…
