    Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival 2019

    By Le Anne Lindsay The 2019 Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival, presented by Comcast runs November 7-17, 2019.  Featuring over 90 films, the festival will include intimate discussions with filmmakers; celebrity chef catering; musical concerts; live theater performances by local Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) artists; and more. Special guests anticipated to attend include singer/songwriter Joe X. Jiang (guitarist of The Slants), National Protest Movement #TsuruForSolidarity Co-Chair Mike Ishii, Japanese American Rappers Aisha Fukushima and Miyachi, Chinese American Rappers Jason Chu and Leo Xia (of NITEMRKT), as well as dozens of filmmakers, musicians, and academics.     Marking Martin Scorsese’s 60th directorial effort. Based on Charles Brandt’s book I Heard You Paint Houses, (screenplay Steven Zaillian) a non-fiction account detailing the life of Frank Sheeran (Robert De Niro) a soldier in WWII, who returns to his Philadelphia roots to become a truck driver, but eventually is lucky or unlucky enough to meet mob boss Russell Bufalino (Joe Pesci) who measures Sheeran up to be mob material, despite not being Italian or connected to any families.     AMC Dine-In Fashion District 8, opens for business

    November 4, 2019 /

    PhillyVoice toured the new theater Wednesday, and spoke with an AMC representative about what moviegoers can expect. “The (Fashion District) development had a lot to do with it,” Ryan Noonan, AMC’s director of corporate communications said, explaining why AMC is entering the Center City market now. “We don’t build that many new (buildings) anymore … we’ve been really focused on renovating the existing theaters in our circuit, including in the Philadelphia area… The theater has eight screens, two of which – the Prime and Dolby theaters – are “premium” experiences with larger auditoriums and screens.
