Philly Restaurants Garces Trading Co & Village Whiskey
It takes me a while, however, slowly but surely, I try to get around to all the Stephen Starr Restaurants and all the Jose Garces Restaurants in Philly. This post features two from Garces:
Back in April for a belated Easter meal, I took my Aunt to dinner at Garces Trading Company (1111 Locust Street). And 2 weeks ago, I was treated to a belated birthday dinner at Village Whiskey (118 South 20th Street).

You know me, I’m happy just to be out there dining and taking in the atmosphere. However, my overall impression of Garces Trading Co. – the tin roof makes for an entirely too noisy dining experience.
At Village Whiskey, the cost of the sides to top one’s burger is a bit over-the-top considering the burger itself already cost $11.
Here’s some past write-ups from others around the City:
Philadelphia Magazine – Of all of Philadelphia’s multi-concept restaurateurs,Jose Garces might be the most original. Whether at Spanish-inspired Amada, Basque-inflected Tinto or boozy burger joint Village Whiskey, you never feel like you’re taking a ride on the New York-to-Philly three-year-trend-lag time machine. Garces’s food is modern without striving to be fashionable – Read More

… if you’ve ever been to Garces Trading Company in Philadelphia, you know that even further, the literal translation is “a small bite of something chocolate that I wish I could eat my weight in” – Read More
Uwishunu.com – Watch the Philly 101 video to meet Village Whiskey master mixologist Lindsey Krueger and learn what he wishes more people knew about in Philadelphia. Turns out, when he’s not concocting creative cocktails behind the bar of Jose Garces’ famed whiskey bar and burger joint, Krueger has an appreciative eye for art in the city – Read More
Me And The Blue Skies – We didn’t
realize just how small the Village Whiskey was until we actually entered
it. It’s small. There’s a tiny bar and a bunch of tall, tufted leather
booths with round tables that surround the outer wall. Beyond the bar
is a standing room only area with small counters where diners try to
woof down their burgers while avoiding being knocked over by the servers
as they travel from the kitchen to the dining area and back – Read More
