5 BEST FOODIE FILMS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY

I had planned for my Valentine’s Day post to be a write up on the new Nicholas Sparks movie Safe Haven, but I had a major break with my best friend of 23 years (see facebook post) and never made it to the screening.   The movie looks super schmaltzy anyway. Poor Julianne Hough, she was so adorable and animated on DWTS, I would like to see her make it as an actress, but she’s only been in totally awful movies – Burlesque, Footloose, Rock of Ages, and from the trailers of this movie, I’m not sure about the chemistry between she and Josh Duhamel.

Anyway, I’m happy to present a Valentine’s Day post from a guest blogger instead. Bridget has written a fun food in film post on delightfully, delicious romantic movies:

5
Best Foodie Films for Valentine’s Day:

Valentine’s
Day is a wonderful time to celebrate romance through sensual and sumptuous food — from chocolate-covered strawberries to succulent
passion fruit to rich and creamy cheese cake. Valentine’s Day is the
perfect time to indulge all your senses.
There
are many films that also celebrate the sensual nature of food and its
role in romance. Cozy up to your sweetie and enjoy a romantic dinner
for two while you watch one of these  foodie films for
Valentine’s Day:

Gorgeous
Juliette Binoche arrives in a small French town and stirs things up
by opening a chocolate shop. It’s not her delicious treats that are
the scandal: It’s the fact that she sells them on Sundays right
across the street from a church. The fact that she’s a single mother
flouting the rules and convincing the other ladies in town to do
their own thang also doesn’t help her case. Enter Johnny Depp, a
rapscallion gypsy with a rebellious streak to match her own, and you
have the recipe for a passionate love story.
Besides
all the eye candy in the movie, you’ll also love seeing all the
gorgeous chocolate being made. Enjoy it while you eat your
Valentine’s chocolates early.
This
German film was remade into the movie “No Reservations”
starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, but I have always preferred the charm
of the original. The movie follows Martha, a renowned chef in a top
kitchen, who must unexpectedly care for her 8-year-old niece after
her sister dies in a car crash. Her controlled and orderly life is
thrown into chaos as she tries to navigate being an unexpected parent
— and she comes to terms with her growing feelings for an upstart
chef in her kitchen.
You’ll
love all the food porn in this movie, coupled with sweet scenes of a
blossoming romance. Cook a meal with your sweetie and watch this
movie.
This
sensuous Spanish drama tells the love story of Pedro and Tita who
seem destined to never be together because Tita’s mother wants her to
remain unmarried to care for her. Tita pours her passion and her
sorrows into her cooking, and anyone who eats her meals becomes
consumed by that passion or that sorrow.
This
movie will have you taking a second look at your food and how a good
meal can make you feel. Pick a few treats that make you feel romantic
and watch this movie with your beloved.
Wine is
the star of this movie, but it is always accompanied by sumptuous
feasts and delicious treats. As the characters make their way on a
wine tour across California’s wine country, they eat at some of the
best restaurants and partake of some of the finest cheeses,
chocolates, and other accompaniments. Along the way, they enjoy
passion and romance and learn a little about the true nature of love.
Pour
yourself a glass of your favorite vino and enjoy a plate of delicious
cheeses while you hold hands and watch this award-winning movie.
The
beautiful Penelope Cruz plays an accomplished Brazilian chef who
escapes a broken heart by moving to San Francisco. However, she soon
rebuilds her life as the host of a television show about passion
food, and she is soon tempted by love again with the show’s producer.
In the end, she must choose between the passion she felt with her
husband and the promise of this new love.
There
are many more great foodie films that are perfect for you and your
sweetheart to enjoy together for a romantic night together this
Valentine’s Day.
