Tinsel & Tine’s PART 2 Coverage of the 23rd Philadelphia Film Festival (#PFF23)

    November 17, 2014 /

Got to ask writer/director Alex Ross Perry had he always intended for the protagonist (played by Jason Schwartzman) to have long periods of time off screen when he began writing Listen Up Philip?       See Audio Player below to hear answer...

Have You Heard: BEYOND THE LIGHTS

    November 14, 2014 /

by Contributor Terri Heard I was listening to The Movie Man’s 6 Second Review for Beyond the Lights this morning on the Elvis Duran Show and I just knew he was going to give a curt dismissal ending in “I’m Out” –  But he was IN! He gave it a more than six second rave! Not that I need validation from The Movie Man to like or support a movie, but it did prove this movie has cross over appeal, not just with white and black audiences but, male and female. You know who else really liked the movie? Another new Tinsel & Tine Blog Contributor – Terri Heard.  I…

Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival Gets FOODIE (Nov 13 – 22, 2014)

    November 13, 2014 /

I’m still finished publishing my Part 2 & 3 of the Philadelphia Film Festival Recap, but I’m still gonna try to catch some of the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival running November 12 -22, 2014 which is about celebrating and elevating the Asian American experience. Since 2008 PAAFF is proud to have presented dozens of culturally relevant films and exciting programming to broad and diverse audiences from Chinatown to Center City to University City. I’m particularly interested in their Foodie Film Series PAAFF EATS: Thurs 11/13 6:30pm – Documentary Program FAMILY INGREDIENTS – Join host Chef Ed Kenney as he travels the path of ancestors, from Hawaii to the homeland in…

    Hairy Baby: BIG HERO 6

    November 9, 2014 /

Disney's latest offering Big Hero 6 is loosely based on a Japanese-style comic strip. It features Hiro (voice of Ryan Potter), a 13 year-old genius who's already eligible for college, but thinks that's a waste of time, when he's already making big bank entering robot battle competitions with a seemingly innocuous floppy looking bot, which completely destroys the competition.  Talk about a ringer!

Blog Contributor: MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN

    November 8, 2014 /

I’m a fan of  Jason Reitman’s films: Thank You for Smoking (2006) Juno (2007) Up in the Air (2009) Young Adult (2011) Labor Day (2013) there’s always a bit of melancholy mixed with subtle humor and a side of social commentary not far beneath the surface. So I’m not really sure why I haven’t made a point yet to see Men, Women & Children, although, The Rotten Tomatoes meter reading is 23 critics / 53 audience, which makes me think, no rush, see it eventually on Netflix. However, Monique, who has previously submitted reviews to Tinsel & Tine, loves the movie!  See her reasons why below. –  Le Anne Lindsay,…
