MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE – Sean Durkin & Elizabeth Olsen Q & A
Have you heard about Martha Marcy May Marlene? It’s been a darling of this year’s festival circuit – The title gives the impression four women share top billing, but in actuality newcomer Elizabeth Olsen (cast only two weeks before shooting), is not only the subject of the multiple monikers, she hauntingly carries the full weight of this dark drama; along with some good, creepy assistance by John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone). The film explores the mind altering experience of cult life. A group of mostly 20-something men and women share an old farm house in upper state New York. The initial impression is one of communal, live off the land, find…

Tinsel & Tine Interview – Eric Bresler (Cinedelphia) Profiled
It’s pouring rain this Sunday as I begin this post, just as it was last Sunday when I met Eric Bresler at The Last Drop Coffeehouse (13th & Pine). Last Drop offers nothing in the way of a breakfast sandwich, so I settled for a chocolate croissant and coffee. Eric is a Naked Juice, non-coffee drinking, vegetarian. This explains his boyish appearance and energetic ability to run several projects at once. As I mentioned in my previous post – Tinsel & Tine’s Dreams and Schemes, Eric was the recipient of a profile interview in celebration of my 100th facebook like. However, as it is my intention to highlight the film…

Tinsel & Tine’s Dreams and Schemes
Tinsel & Tine’s facebook fan page had reached 99 Likes! With the plethora of blogs out there, this was no easy feat. Upon reaching 93, I had started thinking about putting together some kind of dinner and a movie give-away for the person that was my 100th Like. The pros of writing a blog is that you don’t have to answer to, or collaborate with, anyone. The cons being you must do everything yourself: attend events, gather and write content, market/promote and figure out long-term goals and strategy. So before I had the chance to contact restaurants and distributors and sell them on the idea of giving me a gift…

Philly Restaurant – Indian Restaurant (1634 South Street)
I think it’s funny that the name of this Indian food restaurant is Indian Restaurant. Makes you wonder if they just gave up on trying to agree on a name. It’s only been open since March, the dining room is new, fresh, nice, not a lot of character, but traditionally decorated, white table cloths, preset with cloth napkins. I arrived for an early dinner today (Sunday) around 4pm and had the place entirely to myself; they seem to do more of a take-out business, although it’s very pricey for take-out. The staff was attentive without being annoying. I sat in the restaurant for over two hours watching a streaming seminar…

Culinary Catch Up – MARRAKESH
Tinsel and Tine has always been a main course of Tinsel and a loving dollop of Tine. Therefore, my restaurant posts often get pushed back a bit, like this one from April. I went to this incredibly fun Moroccan restaurant with a group of Couch Surfers, the restaurant is called Marrakesh, located just off of South Street (517 Leithgow Street), a 30 year-old business, family owned and operated. The ambiance and size of the establishment is how you’d imagine the tent interior of a wealthy Sheik in the middle of an Oasis. There was about 35 of us in the group taking up the entire restaurant, split up into groups…
