Toronto International Film Festival
I was in Toronto for Volver so why am I not there to see Pedro Almodóvar’s second vehicle for smoldering Penelope Cruz Broken Embraces? I have a friend who is at the Festival for business, I asked her to be my SMPT corespondent, but I don’t believe she’s going to write in. One day I will be the next Steven Rea, movie critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer, and I will be expected and paid to be at all the important film festivals. But until then, here a link to his blog coverage during TIFF (Sept 10 – 19th) http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/onmovies

I read that Meryl Streep did not so much wish to impersonate Julia Child, but rather portray the image Julie Powell would have had in her head of Julia Child. This subtly worked well, but what else would you expect from Meryl Streep. I realize Amy Adams has held her own with Streep in Doubt, but…

Philly Restaurant – Osteria
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor What a disappointment! I had been wanting to dine at Marc Vetri and Jeff Benjamin’s Osteria (640 North Broad Street) for over a year. (The year I’ve been in school and on unemployment) Finally, I was given a gift certificate to this much talked about and written about Trattoria. Still, I waited weeks for the right day and when I was in the proper mood. Now perhaps I shouldn’t have gone alone.
