UNCUT GEMS
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor
Damn, I so underestimated this movie! I’m not a big Adam Sandler fan and it looked like basic crime genre stuff, also not a fan, so I deliberately didn’t go to the press screening and when the screener arrived I tossed it aside.
Tonight it was what my sister wanted to watch, I had just made pork sausage bolognese with orecchiette pasta and opened a bottle of wine, so I was just chillin, not in serious film watching mode...
Next thing you know, I am DEEP into this flick!!! The tension built is genius. The score is maddening, but really heightens the mood. Characters just talk over one another, speaking at the same time, like real life. Actually, half of them I think were real people, not actors. There’s never a dull moment. And I’ve never been so nervous for a man I didn’t even particularly like. The last 15 minutes of the movie I was literally pacing my living room, so uptight & tense, I couldn’t sit down π¬π§π²
Surprisingly, although the uncut gem drives the plot, it’s really more a character study of a gambler with no impulse control, and for some reason he sucks you in!
