Disney’s MULAN China Controversy
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Everything’s a political landmine now, even Disney has to watch its step when working with foreign powers for fear of being brought before a congressional committee. What started out as a way to make sure the live remake of animated Mulan would have as much authenticity as possible and a way to rake in Chinese box office, now has Disney getting back lash from anti-China thinking in the US and retaliation from the Chinese government by a refusal to allow its media to promote the film, which earned a meager $23 million in its Chinese theatrical debut.
