Philly Restaurant: Fitler Dining Room
Photo: Foobooz Yes, it’s true, I do love comfort food and diners and Harrahs Casino buffet, but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate upscale, trendy dining and I know those two adjectives = $$$. I also know you shouldn’t just walk up on a small, boutique type dining establishment when you’re looking to just catch a bite to eat; these types of restaurants are for a dining experience of at least two courses. However, because we wanted to dine alfresco and happened to be in the vicinity of Filter Dining Room (owned by Pub & Kitchen’s Dan Clark & Ed Hackett) and saw open tables outside, we decided to stop…

Philly Restaurant: Cuba Libre Revisted
I did a small favor for a friend and she rewarded me with Sunday brunch at a restaurant of my choosing! You’d think writing a food blog, I’d get to go to brunch left and right. Not true-yet. Of course, the life that I live in my head has me going to brunch at least 3 out of the 4 Sundays in a month. The restaurant doesn’t look very crowded in this picture because I went for a late 3pm lunch. But I can imagine on the nights featuring trivia, musical bingo and open mic, accompanied by various drink specials like $3 Margaritas and $1 Miller Lites, this place is probably hoping with the…

Franco’s Trattoria
It's an Italian eatery, with a very unassuming facade, in fact, it's very un-noticeable underneath the bridge over pass - neither sitting on Ridge Avenue or Kelly Drive, but rather in between.

Bad Timing for Buddakan
Have you ever checked out Tinsel & Tine’s list of “Next Dining Experiences”? (scroll down sidebar) Buddakan was on that list for a very long time. I was able to check it off in June, as I was treated to this long standing Stephen Starr hot spot for my birthday. For years I walked passed this restaurant and felt as if it were a private club and that I needed a special invitation to dine. The family style menu aspect always gave me the impression I needed to come with a gaggle of people. That every table would be filled with laughing, jovial large parties and anyone dining with a…
