Empire Talk Week 5: Dangerous Bonds (FoxTV)

    February 5, 2015 /

7 Highlights (Recap) from Episode 5 of EMPIRE “Dangerous Bonds” Directed by John Singleton Viewers were going crazy tweeting about the end of this week’s episode. Cookie’s $5000 hasty “purchase” is going to have big consequences! 1. One of the great things about this show, the format and music element makes it easy to have a slew of cameo appearances without it seeming overdone. This week Anthony Hamilton serenaded Anika while Lucious proposed marriage (Did you see that ROCK!?).  Only thing is, the proposal looks to be yet another strategic Lucious Lyons move as he needs a written clean bill of health to give to the insurance company, before Empire…

Love, Sacrifice and Black Holes: THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

    November 20, 2014 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor My first thought, well not first, but second or third thought after seeing The Theory of Everything was –  how could someone all crippled up with ALS, who can’t even feed himself, have a better sex life than me!?! Stephen Hawking’s, (Sheldon Cooper’s idol for any Big Bang Theory fans) life is proof that our sheer mental will, along with the love of a good woman, can work miracles. Diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS) after tripping through the ivory courtyards of Cambridge University; Hawking, played with great honesty by Eddie Redmayne, is told he has this degenerative motor neurons affliction and is given 2…

Wish I had loved it: WISH I WAS HERE

    July 24, 2014 /

All of these themes are great to explore in an Indie-ish/dram-edy, and it is an enjoyable movie, the issue being it's overly earnest and heavy handed in its sentimentality. For instance, when Grace cuts off all her hair and Aidan takes his daughter to get a wig, he says, "You can pick out any wig in the store as long as it's as unique and amazing as you"...

Will You Stop Eating Cupcakes! – THIS IS 40

    December 22, 2012 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor If I had realized the characters in Judd Apatow’s This Is 40, were the same couple from Knocked Up, I would not have gone to see this movie. I hated Alison’s (Katherine Heigl’s) annoying, abrasive, argumentative sister and brother-in-law. My amnesia is not surprising considering Knocked Up is on my list of “never need to see again movies” – just did not see the funny. I did however, really like the trailer for This Is 40, and not only did the trailer do the movie justice – for a change, there are heaps more funny scenes and lines than the trailer shows! Most importantly, Debbie…

Just a Taste: The Five-Year Engagement

    April 6, 2012 /

Tom (Jason Segel) asks Violet (Emily Blunt) to marry him on the rooftop of the San Francisco restaurant where Tom is a sou chef. Violet accepts, they’ve been together for a year and all is perfect.  Perfect that is until Violet gets offered a position at Michigan University in the Psychology department and Tom agrees they’ll relocate there for the two years of her program. Only two years turns into five; the passage of time punctuated with the death of yet another grandparent. Their wedding plans continue to be in a state of flux or postponement, and Tom unable to find a decent chef position, goes a little mid-western stir…
