    Queen & Slim

    November 30, 2019 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Lena Waithe (Boomerang (TV Series) wrote this movie from a suggestion by “A Million Little Pieces” author James Frey. She explains as black people we have to make a decision on who we show up as in life – Martin Luther King or Malcolm X. I think that’s a bit overstated as it doesn’t leave any gray area, or should I say, medium brown 😉 but in terms of character creation I see her point. Queen (Jodie Turner-Smith) is a hard driving, cynical defense attorney. Slim (Daniel Kaluuya) is an easygoing, religious Costco employee. They meet on Tinder. She’d swiped left on him before, but…

    THE INTRUDER

    May 3, 2019 /

Tinsel & Tine #MiniMovieReview THE INDTRUDER (Director Deon Taylor) – Scott and Anne Russell (Michael Ealy &  Meagan Good) celebrate Scott’s landing a big new client by buying a big new house in Napa Valley CA. The only problem being, the old widower (Dennis Quaid) is having a hard time letting go of his family’s property, selling it to the Russell’s but finding any and all reason to return to the house and give advice and befriend Anne, who’s often home alone, as Scott still works in San Francisco. A movie like this is meant to be so bad, it’s good (no pun intended), it’s supposed to have a bit…

    LITTLE

    April 12, 2019 /

Very quick #MiniMovieReview for LITTLE, opening week I promoted the below LA Times interview featuring all the fabulous black women involved: Director Tina Gordon, Regina Hall, Issa Rae and the outstanding comedic timing, not to mention producing skills of Marsai Martin! I really enjoyed the movie, it’s predictably satisfying, good momentum, I like the little floor piano scene thrown in as a nod to Penny Marshall/Tom Hanks BIG. There’s a number of funny lines and moments not seen in the trailer, and one scene that hits home better than the trailer – when “Little” Jordan is forced to go to school and meets her gorgeous teacher Justin Hartley (This is…

    SORRY TO BOTHER YOU

    July 21, 2018 /

It all sounds reasonable, but Riley's style is to keep dialing up the crazy, notch by notch until you're at a full rolling boil of absurdist, off-beat, comedic Sci-fi soup. The satirical messages relating to society's tendencies to sell out who we really are to succeed, normalize crazy stuff, and feel fine that Amazon (aka "Worry Free") is taking over the world, along with a couple other social observations, makes "Sorry to Bother You' an original ride to say the least.

    Movie Blog Post: BLACK PANTHER

    February 20, 2018 /

Tinsel & Tine’s Look at BLACK PANTHER By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor I don’t follow comic books, but I do consider myself a “Blerd” (Black Nerd). I’m all about superhero movies, Sci-Fi Flicks, Game of Thrones, totally love Fantasy, so I see every MCU & D.C. movie that comes out, but the excitement for BLACK PANTHER starring Chadwick Boseman was palpable, building since Captain America: Civil War. Whenever I’d get depressed about something, I’d console myself by saying, but Black Panther is coming out soon! I took a day off from work to see the press screening, I bought a T-shirt, I even bought a comic book during the @AmalgamPhilly…
