Straight Outta Compton in Philly

We sent our roving reporter Jessica Lucky out this week to cover the preview screening of the movie STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON and post Q&A at Riverview Theater.  Below is her write up & pics:

Why so much security for a simple Q&A with the director of a soon-to-be cult classic? Might have something to do with a huge cameo from hip-hop legend and cinema star Ice Cube; also co-producer and writer to the ambitious biopic of golden era lyrical assassins N.W.A. entitled “Straight Outta Compton”.

The Q&A session accompanied the special screening where we were introduced to filmmaking hustler and director F. Gary Gray, Jason Mitchell (EazyE), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (OMG)along with none other than Jackson’s daddy dearest, Ice Cube.
The cipher commenced and ended on heartfelt declarations of appreciation extended from Jason Mitchell to the audience and his film crew. O’Shea Jackson Jr. shared his climb to reach the top; an acting journey that would take him two years to master in order to properly portray and depict the lifestyle of his father, O’Shea Jackson aka Ice Cube.

Other exquisite commentary from Gray challenged us to discover metaphors within the piece, and producer Ice Cube moved the crowd with witty testimony that inspired minds to gather in supporting black excellence. One gem that adorned O’Shea Sr.’s mental gold was simple and direct, speaking truth to power:
“Fall in love with the music.”

#StraightOuttaCompton hits theaters August 14th. Be there.
