Sixty Restaurants Ready to Fire up the Grills for 9th Annual Philadelphia Burger Brawl

The gloves are coming off and the grills are ready to be fired up! Over 60 restaurants from around the region will battle for burger bragging rights at the 9th Annual Philadelphia Burger Brawl presented by Jim Beam.

Philadelphia’s largest food competition will move to the fall and take place on Sunday, September 15, 2019, at a new location at Navy Yard Philadelphia.

Guests are invited to enjoy unlimited burger samples and vote for their favorite. Restaurants will also shake up their best cocktails and compete in the Killer Cocktail Competition. All proceeds go directly to The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia to support hardware needs to implement math and reading literacy programs in underserved elementary schools.

Philadelphia Burger Brawl is back again with two exciting changes — an all new date in the fall and an all new, even larger location at Navy Yard Philadelphia,” said volunteer Organizer and Founder Rob Wasserman. “We are ready to bring on the sizzle as we help feed literacy and support underserved elementary schools in Philadelphia. This year we are proud to have support from 60+ restaurants that will bring their culinary talents and passion to the Navy Yard. Be prepared to come hungry as they wow us again at the grills. While nothing beats walking away with Burger Brawl bragging rights, we are all actually winners as we raise tens of thousands of dollars together for an amazing cause near and dear to our hearts.”

For 2019, look for a who’s who of top restaurants, eateries and bars spanning across the region, from Center City to South Jersey, the Main Line to the Northeast, and everywhere in between. ABOUT BURGER BRAWL Philadelphia Burger Brawl began in 2011 as a neighborhood fundraiser for founders Rob and Maggie Wasserman’s children’s school, The William M. Meredith Elementary School, in South Philadelphia. Eight years ago, their goal was to gather a few restaurant industry friends to create a small event at Fleisher Art Memorial that would eventually fund a new computer lab for Meredith. Burger Brawl soon outgrew Fleisher and in 2014 moved to the XFINITY Live! Complex. More than 3,000 people attend and more than 50 restaurants participate annually. To date, Burger Brawl has raised more than $283,000 and funded numerous projects supporting literacy for the School District of Philadelphia, determined by their partners from the Fund for the School District of Philadelphia. Projects have included dedicated computer laboratories, equipment like white boards, Dr. Hite’s Right Books program, Google Chrome Books, and other necessities for teaching literacy through technology.
