SHAFT
Tinsel & Tine #MiniMovieReview SHAFT directed by Tim Story written by Kenya Barris & Alex Barnow – I’ll keep it very short – it’s M’F’ing Summertime and this is a summer movie, so “shut yo mouth” if you’re looking for any signs of Blaxploitation or any signs of a decent plot.
This is Samuel L. Jackson doing what he does best – be a bad-ass that just doesn’t give AF. Jessie T. Usher who I wasn’t sold on in the trailers, plays his son who didn’t grow up with his father in his life, other than receiving some rather inappropriate gifts from Daddy Shaft over the years. Despite not being close, Jr. does follow in his father’s footstep to some degree by joining the FBI as a Data Specialist & Cryptologist.
The fun of the movie comes from enjoying Usher as a straight-man to Jackson and watching him become more and more Shaft-like as the movie progresses; while at the same time, Shaft comes to appreciate a few of the more subtle, computer driven ways of investigating. Still, in the end, it’s all guns a blazing just the way the audience wants to see a showdown!
In terms of fun, energy and laughter T&T the Large Association of Movie Blogs (aka the LAMb) rating – 3.5 outta 5
