The Rosati Water Ice Company began in Philadelphia in 1912. Their headquarters are now in Clifton Heights (Delco), but it’s still a beloved Philly treat. Like so many businesses, Rosati Ice has hit upon hard times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Schools which usually provide a steady order of Water Ice for student lunches are not ordering due to school closings. In addition, Rosati wants to give back to our Veterans. You give to us; we pay it forward. This is a campaign about helping two families – the workers at a century-old Philadelphia company, and the brave veterans who have served our country.
Rosati Ice has given a taste of summer to Philadelphia families for over 100 years. I am the owner, Rich Trotter, a West Point graduate. My son is an Army Captain and my warehouse manager is a Purple Heart Marine.
I employ twenty people and for the first time since taking over the company in 1997, I furloughed many of them while the rest of us voluntarily reduced our pay. Ninety percent of our revenue between Labor Day and March is K-12 schools. In spite of our best efforts, sales are only 30% of normal and will remain so until our non-school sales kick in for the 2021 spring and summer. My people have families and they are my family, the Rosati Ice family.
I am asking for your help to bridge Rosati Ice until Spring so my good workers can return to full-time work. Rosati Ice has product, but until the spring, we don’t have the sales.
You can help. When you donate, we will pay it forward by sending water ice to our Veterans and their caregivers. For every $3 we receive, a 10 ounce cup of our water ice will be donated to a Veteran’s facility (hospital, nursing home, etc).
Our goal is $300,000 or 100,000 cups of water ice. This will allow me to keep everyone fully employed until the Spring and will bring many smiles to 100,000 Veterans and caregivers.
Thank you greatly for your compassion and your support. Rosati Ice…Over 100 years of smiles!
