by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor It should have been my priority to get this commentary on Red Tails up much sooner – considering it took George Lucas 20 years to get this film made, with a major obstacle being, Hollywood not wanting to spend big bucks on a movie featuring a black cast. In terms of Angelina's directing style, I'm glad that she just shot it straight, it's clean and authentic. She didn't try to be an auteur, no gimmicks, nothing vague or highbrow. And as a side note: each scene was shot twice; once in English and another in the language of the region, creating two versions of the film...

Although my list may be somewhat eclectic, these were the films that immediately came to mind when I sat down to do a top 10 list. Each of the above films has a combination of seamless storytelling and characters that just struck a chord within me...
20th Philadelphia Film Festival – Race to the Bottom of the Earth

Surprisingly compelling considering it's basically one man talking into a video camera about frost bite, broken camping stoves, broken skies, whiteout conditions, and calling his wife each night with sometimes incoherent reports of the day.
