MAGIC MIKE XXL: Review and Interview with Stephen “tWitch” Boss at Sofitel Philadelphia

2012’s Magic Mike (click for T&T post) took most of us by surprise.  Sure, Steven Soderbergh is an amazing director, but it just seemed like such a throwaway summer movie concept – well, we were wrong – it turned out to be a pretty darn good movie, Matthew McConaughey was fantastic and for those of us who didn’t know Channing Tatum’s background, we were amazed by his moves. Three years later we’re given the sequel and this one, under the direction of Gregory Jacobs with it’s very loose plot and limited dialogue is more or less a throwaway, but a really HOT, SEXY, SUPER FUN summer movie!

I saw it in the afternoon with about a dozen other female journalists/press/bloggers and it felt like a party in the theater and in the lobby after the screening. It was so hard to go back to work.  I just wanted to go do shots and find a Channing Tatum look-a-like to pick me up, turn me over and stand on his head between my legs…

Brief T&T Synopsis:  The guys from Xquisite (Kings of Tampa) are back! Big Dick Richie (Joe Manganiello), Ken (Matt Bomer), Tito (Adam Rodriguez), Tarzan (Kevin Nash) and Tobias (Gabriel Iglesias). McConaughey’s character Dallas has left them on their own. He’s taken “The Kid” and started a new act in a foreign land. Seeing as none of these guys are the type to take over the business, they decide the only thing to do is give up stripping (male entertainment) and start new lives, but first they want just one more blow out show to go out on a high note. The best place to do this is at the Strippers Convention in Myrtle Beach. Mike (Tatum) has been gone for 3 years. He’s started his own furniture design business and is living life like a grown up. The guys, traveling in a Food Truck (very reminiscent of Jon Favreau’s Chef – click for T&T post)stop to see Mike on their way to Myrtle Beach; he decides to hit the road with them, leading to male bonding, fighting, non-sense and meeting people along the way, your typical road trip movie stuff. Things get really good when they make a stop at a “Gentlemen’s Club” in Savannah run by Rome (Jada Pinkett Smith) who is AWESOME! she had big shoes to fill as the MC and she kills it!.

And this is where we go into my interview with the young dancer/actor, as I got a chance to sit down with tWitch at the Sofitel Hotel (120 S 17th St) in Philadelphia.

We talked about the mirror dance he does with Tatum in the movie –  the perks of being a DJ on “Ellen” – What he likes to eat when he goes home to Alabama  and more…

He seems like a grounded guy, always willing to give credit to others, the type of person you’re happy to see things happening for!
