Culinary Catch Up – MARRAKESH

Tinsel and Tine has always been a main course of Tinsel and a loving dollop of Tine. Therefore, my restaurant posts often get pushed back a bit, like this one from April.

Marrakesh on Urbanspoon

I went to this incredibly fun Moroccan restaurant with a group of Couch Surfers, the restaurant is called Marrakesh, located just off of South Street (517 Leithgow Street), a 30 year-old business, family owned and operated. The ambiance and size of the establishment is how you’d imagine the tent interior of a wealthy Sheik in the middle of an Oasis.

There was about 35 of us in the group taking up the entire restaurant, split up into groups of  5 or 6 in sections of throw pillows, low tables and mood lighting. No need for menus or ordering, the courses just start coming after our Moroccan Hand washing.

(photo credit: hand washing pitcher is not from the restaurant, but rather from a blog I discovered while looking for an image called The Good Life in Morocco).

At this point in time, I have misplaced my notes on all the incredibly savory courses we enjoyed, of which I believe, there were seven, plus a perfect mint tea finish.

I do remember loving the The B’stellalayered pie with chicken, assorted nuts, almonds, eggs, parsley and onions, topped with confection sugar and traced with cinnamon. 4 Tines (* Excellent – 4 Tines / * Great – 3 Tines / * Good – 2 Tines / * Fair – 1 Tine / * Poor – Tarnished)

The B’stella

Although this looks like a helluva lot of cash, the meal was a great bargain $30 pp (plus tax and tip). But be sure to hit the ATM before embarking on this exotic culinary journey, as credit cards are not accepted.

    Denine,

I am surprised you haven't been, you'd love it!

I'm not actually a couch surfer, I had a small crush on the guy that invited me. I knew there was a big age difference between us, but I thought I was picking up on a vibe, but he never got any "friendlier" so I guess I was wrong.

It was a cool group of people though; there are couch surfers all over the world, people willing to invite a stranger into their home, which allows for major travel without the expense of hotels. I just hope it stays safe, you'd hate to see some crazy ruin it, like that Craig's List killer.

oooh – I cannot believe as a life-long Philadelphian, I've never been to this place! Sounds like a good destination for a group. I'd love to know and read more about the couch surfers – I think you need to do an addendum article about them and what they are all about!
