Crowdfunding Campaign Highlight: BRASS RIBBON CINEMA
KICKSTARTER FEATURE:
BRASS RIBBON CINEMA:
Fishtown’s Neighborhood Movie Theater!
Attn: Philly,
Fishtown is missing a movie theater. But there’s a plan, they just need your support!
Like most of Philadelphia, Fishtown is in the midst of a great revitalization. The neighborhood has changed so much even in the past few years. Coffee houses, ice cream shops, restaurants, bars, bakeries, art galleries, and glorious, GLORIOUS pizza — all within walking distance, BUT the nearest movie theater is way across town.
Enter Miguel Luzon, Mairobi Luzon and Adam Cramer – two people with a dream and one with the perfect space.
WHO WE ARE
Brass Ribbon Cinema is the vision of siblings and Fishtown transplants Mairobi and Miguel Luzon – “Forgoing the usual upsells and glitz of a traditional big-box theater, Brass Ribbon Cinema is first and foremost a community movie theater. Our mission a simple one: To provide Fishtown and Kensington with local, awesome, and reasonably-priced cinema. We do what we do in order to get to the heart of why cinematic experiences matter. We believe that film and community can go hand-in hand as means of finding common ground through shared stories and shared experiences”.
Some of what you can expect to find at Brass Ribbon Cinema:
Kid-friendly sing-along matinee (because who doesn’t still have Frozen’s “Let It Go” replaying in their heads?).
Adult-friendly drink-along BYOB movie nights (take a sip every time the camera unnecessarily focuses on a gear shift in “The Fast and The Furious”).
Free First Friday special screenings. Classic/remake double features. Concessions partnerships with local restaurants. Specialty screenings for independent artists. Free on-screen advertising for local charities and nonprofits. These are just a few of the ideas we have to make Brass Ribbon Cinema a Fishtown favorite.
WHERE YOU’LL FIND US
We are delighted to have found a location that we feel not only suits the needs of a fledgling movie theater, but is also a Fishtown landmark. Adam Cramer of Liberty Vintage Motorcycles has been kind enough to let us lease half of his glorious garage to be renovated into the future home of Brass Ribbon Cinema. We connected with Adam through a community Facebook page. Adam had put up a post looking for a tenant that would make use of half of his Garage in a way that would be fun, and would add value the neighborhood we call home. It didn’t take long for us to fall in love with the space, and after meeting Adam and hearing his story, we knew we had found the perfect location.
