IDEA Film Fundraiser -“The Evils”
Early in May I interviewed an up and coming actor, Lloyed E. Booker, click for post of interview & film review and gave a plug for the June 17th premiere of a film he’s in called The Evils (Director Hakim Hudson). The premiere doubled as a fundraiser for a non-profit organization called IDEA Performing Arts Center, which benefits at risk kids in Camden by channeling their energy into multi-media production, filmmaking, visual arts , music and dance. How long was the pre-production period? The actors, Jen and John Hawkes (who played Teardrop) came down a week ahead of time. Jen had to do a lot of work learning how to use the farm machinery and the squirrel skinning. John visited some bars and got recordings of people's voices in the community to learn accents. "This was a crucial part of the production, to have time before rolling to get acclimated and steeped and immersed in the groove."

Mo' nique started the evening off right with a very honest and emotional speech. Well deserved, her role in Precious seemed so out of character for her. It's always amazing when a comedian delivers, such a powerful performance. It's just too bad she didn't shave her legs for the red carpet!

The Birth Tinsel & Tine!
I’d like to thank all my friends and family who were with me during the labor pains of birthing a new name for my blog. I was given some good suggestions: “Film Bites”, “Restaurant and Reels”, “Dip My Toe”, “Cinema Gastronomique”, “Cineatsta”,”Hungry Eyes” and a few others. I actually only got two enthusiastic responses to Tinsel & Tine, so I was going to go with majority rules and set about buying the domain filmbites.net, but at the checkout, I changed my mind; it just didn’t seem to have any ME in it.
