Serving Up: Jack the Giant Slayer
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor One of life’s beautiful mysteries is the ageless, universality of myths and fairytales. Why are these stories still so familiar to us century after century? It occurred to me, Joseph Campbell, the father of mythology, would be a good one to turn to on this subject, so I did a quick Google search to find out how he defines the difference between a myth and a fairytale – Campbell describes fairy tales, used interchangeably with “folk tale,”as pastime and as the myths whose meaning has been lost over time. I found a blog from a doctorate student in Mythology. She expresses myth as metaphors and…

Ang Lee: LIFE OF PI
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor MEERKAT SNACK Back in early November, I missed the press screening for Life of PI. It’s still a disgusting proposition in terms of delicacies, unless of course, you happen to be a zombi, in which case, everything is good from the toes on up. Now an interesting new zombie fact is revealed in Jonathan Levine’s (The Wackness, 50/50) creature feature Warm Bodies – and that is, by eating your victim’s brain, you get to experience their memories and for a moment, feel almost alive again! Nicholas Hoult plays a very credible and adorable zombie, who’d you’d never believe is British, and…

Taste My Wrath: PARKER
What makes you root for Parker is his moral code of ethics, he's not into violence and taking lives unless it's necessary, he always does what he says he's going to do, he strictly believes in the old adage "honor among thieves" and he doesn't cheat on his girlfriend, no matter how good Jennifer Lopez's butt looks in everything she wears or doesn't wear.
