Commentary – Exit Through The Gift Shop
This film is better than a Nike commercial in terms of being inspiring to “just do it”! I love that this guy found his bliss, fame and made millions of dollars because it never occurred to him that he couldn’t. The guy I’m referring to is Thierry Guetta a.k.a Mr. Brainwash. PFS screened this documentary, Exit Through the Gift Shop, a couple of months ago, but I wasn’t able to attend, so I was glad when they added it to the Saturday screenings during this weekend’s Spring Preview Film Fest. It’s sort of a documentary about turning the tables on a documentary filmmaker, only that documentary filmmaker never really intended…

Foodie Film: I AM LOVE
by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor The Phila Film Fest Spring Preview opened with a beautiful Italian film, I Am Love (Io sono l’amore) Director/Writer Luca Guadagnino this film is a truly wonderful example of food in film. There’s a lot of wonderful tactile food preparation and eating of incredible dishes. I love a scene in which a recipe for a Russian fish soup is being disclosed while in the midst of sexual intercourse. The cinematographer zooms in on the colors and the splendors of not only the culinary succulence, but also the natural surroundings of Milan. The film also showcases the modern architecture of the Recchi family’s opulent mansion, where…

Wrap Up of the Wrap Up from Sundance – Carol Coombes
Knowing that readers are seeking out Tinsel & Tine for commentary on new films and reviews on restaurants, here’s my final round-up from Sundance, embracing Hollywood star-power, Asian noodles and a different way to view movies! In The Company Men directed by John Wells, three men Bobby Walker (Ben Affleck) Gene McClary (Tommy Lee Jones) and Phil Woodward (Chris Cooper), senior executives in a shipping company, find themselves causalities of successive (and devastating) rounds of corporate downsizing. If success is measured by grand sounding job-titles, a flashy car, membership to an exclusive golf-club, a large house…

We Interrupt Sundance…
Between the Articles and Blog sections on the Sundance 2010 website, it really is the next best thing to being there. Great transcripts of the Q&A’s – The Runaways is a must see for me!But unfortunately, Carol hasn’t been able to check in the last few days. Hopefully, we’ll all stay tuned for her wrap up! The interruption comes in the form of a R.I.P. for Author, Historian and Activist, Howard Zinn, a couple of months ago, I posted commentary on the History Channel doc “The People Speak” based on Zinn’s work. I hope in honor of him they’ll broadcast the documentary again. On the flip side of that, my…
