Bad Boys For Life

Bad Boys for Life is the third installment of a franchise which started in 1995 with Bad Boys, directed by Michael Bay before his high octane, action, blow-em-up style was even a brand. A buddy cop movie set in the fun, fluorescent crime attracting city of Miami, where Det. Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Det. Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are partners with a ride or die intensity and a humorous bantering partnership born of their differing lifestyles: Lowrey, a risk taking single, ladies man / Burnett a little more cautious and very married. The Boys picked up the action in 2003 with Bad Boys II, but it’s taken 17 years to see them ride again, with Bay opting for producing and a cameo and handing the reigns over to a pair of filmmakers whose previous three features grossed under $4 million at the box-office – combined. co-directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah who seem to understand the blend of comedy, action and heart this franchise is known for.
The plot involves a crime syndicate matriarch Isabel – actress (Kate del Castillo) escape from prison with the help of her ruthless son Armando (Jacob Scipio). She has an elaborate plan to get revenge on the people who took down her late husband, which includes Mike Lowery.
But the real fun of the movie is the duo’s advanced age, including jokes about Smith dying his goatee and Marcus enjoying retirement with a grandbaby and a Barcalounger; and of course all their trademark bickering and stupid jabs at one another. Lawrence & Smith’s chemistry hasn’t missed a beat. The movie is rounded out with a cute new cop squad called AMMO headed by Lowery’s sexy Ex played by Paola Núñez, and a return of nervous, pepto bismal swilling Captain Howard Joe Pantoliano.
I’ve really only seen the other two movies once each, so I’m not like a die hard Bad Boys fan, but I have no complaints with thia movie other than the fact that I think if they were going to say Isabel was a witch with dark powers, they should have done more with that other than Martin Lawrence getting in some good one liners.
