Fernando J. Scarpa (Doradus /Jay ROCCO) Update for 2015!

    January 5, 2015 /

I got a chance to meet and interview LA writer/director, Fernando J. Scarpa in Philadelphia this past summer. His short film Doradus (click for T&T post) was well received at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival 2014 (click for T&T PIFF2015 meets PhillyTechWeek) In fact, it was the first time Scarpa had a chance to view the film with an audience of strangers, having only shown Doradus rough cuts to friends, family and colleagues.  Leaving the screening he was buoyed by the enthusiasm of the audience, motivating him to want to continue the development of the project. “I remember I called co-producer Mara New from the airport and said, we have…

The Importance of SELMA: Interview with director Ava DuVernay in Philadelphia

    January 1, 2015 /

T&T: On the days when you filmed the massacre on the bridge, what was the set like between white and black cast members? Was there a lot of tension? And if so, did you try to dispel it or use it to heighten the scene? AVA: That's interesting. It's the last day of my 2 week press tour and no one else has asked me that question. So that's pretty cool.

What’d Ya Think of This Flick? : INTO THE WOODS

    January 1, 2015 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor   I had started an Into the Woods post two weeks ago, but never finished it and as much as I live for and revere the genre of the Movie Musical, now I’m kinda past doing a more in depth write up. However, once again Chris Evangelista at CutPrintFilm has written a very good review. I don’t agree with his criticism of Johnny Depp as the Big Bad Wolf, or the lukewarm praise for Meryl Streep; but he’s spot on when it comes to the Prince Charming duet between Chris Pine and Billy Magnussen, “Agony” scene/song is pure hilarious camp. It’s been too long since…

Talk About Grit!: UNBROKEN (Angelina Jolie)

    December 28, 2014 /

Wartime dramas can be tough no matter what, but Angelina Jolie has directed a film with no let up on the grueling physical and mental anguish that Zamperini experienced. I think if Unbroken cut out a few days at sea and a couple of beatings and instead we got to see Louis...

BEST & WORST MOVIES of 2014 (Top 10 List)

    December 24, 2014 /

Every year I get to this point where I need to do a Tinsel & Tine end of the year movie round up and then I say to myself "What have you been doing all year?" Because, there's always so many movies I didn't get to see or saw but never wrote about. This year I felt my Golden Globes nominations post would suffice as an end of the year wrap up, and then...
