A Quickie: ABOUT LAST NIGHT

It’s Valentine’s Day and once again I’m spending it alone. I’m not bitter, certainly used to it; but I’m also not in the mood to write a really in depth review on a movie about sex and relationships. Even though the relationships throughout About Last Night are rocky at best, but at least both couples are GETT’N SOME!

So in short, I’ve never seen the original, About Last Night with Demi Moore and Rob Lowe, but I did find someone who took the time to write a transcript of that version –Drew’s Script-O-Rama (which I thought was funny).

I’ve never read the David Mamet play which both movies are based upon. I understand the play is a profane study of gender warfare and sexual perversity in Chicago; so I’m not exactly sure how a date movie rom/com, set in NYC- whether the cast be white or black, comes close to this original material, but there you have it.

I will say #AboutLastNight is a great date movie. It’s not a great movie, in that it’s missing some timing and beats, needs some editing, but the cast is excellent! Michael Ealy and Joy Bryant are a really believable couple. Her neuroses and him allowing friends advice to get in his head, make for true-to-life situations that would come between a perfectly good couple.

Regina Hall really holds her own when it comes to keeping up with the improv antics and stream of conscious crazy that is Kevin Hart. These two fighting or f *!% ing is highly entertaining.

Soon I will no longer have to bring this up, but for now, it’s still noteworthy and so refreshing to watch a movie that just happens to have black leads, but it’s not a “black movie”!

So go see @ALNmovie, it’s what you’d expect and a bit better.

My favorite line: Kevin Hart dressed like a male stripper – “I’m Channing Tatum, Channing Tatum don’t get cold”.
