Game Over Series (Sun Center Studios)

I really want to be a part of Sun Center Studios (Alston, PA) but they don’t appear to be hiring yet.

I’ve tried to make several in roads.  Ideally, I want to be Sun Center Studio’s Official Blogger – interviewing the filmmakers, actors and crews on the lot, taking photos, keeping the public up-to-date on all the happenings at this premier sound stage facility.  Owner, Jeff Rotwitt plans to make the studios a big tourist destination with tours, upscale chain restaurants, shopping etc.. like a mini-city just outside Center City Philadelphia.  With all that, the Sun Center website will require a full-time blogger, and that blogger is going to be me!

To that end, one of the things I’ve been doing is putting Sun Center Studios on my Google Alerts.  This lead me to discover a new comedy being filmed there called Game Over, a series about employees working at a video game store created by Dave Bullis and Michael O’Donnell.  I e-mailed Dave to ask him about his experience being one of the first crews to film on the lot, this lead to Dave giving me a little detail about Sun Center and a lot of detail about Game Over.  Which is OK, we’re all plugging something, and I like to give what support I can to the Philly entertainment industry with my little platform, so here’s a Q & A with Dave Bullis.

T &T: How did the show come about?
DB: I worked at a video game store from 2001-2003. After always joking about how the experience would make for a good show, the time became right to actually make this show. Really, it’s amazing how this has all worked out – from us being able to film at Sun Center Studios, to the great actors we’ve managed to get, to the wonderful crew.
T &T: Tell me about the assimilation of your team.
DB: Having co-written the pilot with local comedian/actor, Michael O’Donnell, I asked a friend of mine local director/producer Chris Pierdomenico to join the production first. I brought on Director of Cinematography Brian Simon after having just worked with him on another film I did, ‘Stephen King’s, In The Deathroom. From there producer Joey DiCamillo III joined. Producer Leah Cevoli joined after seeing our casting calls on film.org. From there we had auditions and were fortunate enough to get such amazing actors. They really made the characters come alive.
T&T: What were the pitfalls of getting it to the pilot stage?
DB: HAHA, there were many, many pitfalls. We had an original deal in place for the 3rd largest game retailer in North America to back the show, etc and the company had to back out over monetary issues. Then we had an independent store on board and he backed out of the deal because of various reasons which really hurt production not just from a location standpoint but also with our time-tables, budget, etc.

T &T: What were the joys?

DB: Finally getting to filming this.  It’s been an unbelievable ride and I really think it’s just the beginning.

T & T: How was the experience shooting at Sun Center?
DB: The people at Sun Center Studios have been beyond wonderful to us. The facilities are absolutely amazing!
T &T: What happens once the pilot is finished?
DB: We’re sending the pilot out to various networks, etc. in hopes of getting it picked up!

Just wanted to add a word of thanks to you, Le Anne (Tinsel & Tine) and The Philadelphia Film Office for being supportive of us, as has local casting directors, Diane Heery and Kathy Wickline.

I was invited to the Game Over Trailer Launch Party last Wednesday, and was really sorry not to be able to attend. However, I’m going to keep tabs on the progression of this project and hopefully many more at Sun Center.
