Whole Foods Celebrates July Pies / Tinsel & Tine Celebrates Pie Movies

I make mention of cake a lot on Tinsel & Tine. In fact, if I had done my review of White House Down (which I didn’t do cause the movie was ridiculous, and Jamie Foxx & Channing Tatum have much better chemistry off camera than on) but if I had, I would have highlighted the scene where Walker (James Woods) enjoys a slice of cake right in the middle of taking 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue hostage.

But I’m also very partial to pie! (See T&T review Philly Restaurant Magpie).

So I was asked to let my readers know that Whole Foods Markets is celebrating Pie in July! All 9”
pies are on-sale for only $9.99 until July 15th.

Whether you want to add something sweet to your own menu or be
everyone’s favorite guest at a summer party, Whole Foods can help
with their huge selection of delicious pies made fresh at local
stores daily by Whole Food’s team of pastry chefs.

The idea of course with this post is to create a hankering for pie – particularly, this time of year, fruit pies, as July is also Blueberry Month. However, my first thought when it comes to movies and pies is American Pie where Jim (Jason Biggs) uses an apple pie to simulate his first sexual experience – not exactly appetizing.  Worst, my second movie thought was from The Help, who could forget the moment when despicable Hilly (Bryce Dallas Howard) chows down on Minny’s (Octavia Spencer) Special Chocolate Pie – less than appetizing.

Finally I remembered Waitress. Despite it being a dark comedy about a diner waitress (Keri Russell) who hopes to win a pie baking contest in order to use the prize money to leave her abusive husband (Jeremy Sisto). And the fact that Adrienne Shelly, the movie’s writer/director/actress was cold bloodily murdered and worse she never knew the success of the movie – Still, the pie scenes themselves are delightful and mouth watering!

Feel free to leave a comment on other pie movies – both appetizing & non-appetizing 🙂

I'm a huge pie fan, and I'd drive or bike far and wide for a great or even good pie. Too bad I'm away for the entire time of the Whole Foods Pie Special! However, where I am, at the Jersey Shore – I'll be near enough to the Ocean City Farmers' Market. On Wednesdays in the summer, a charming and delightful teenage girl named Cat, makes, bakes and sells pies at a stand called, The Pie Girl. All of her proceeds go to feeding the hungry in the Jersey Shore area. So while I'll miss out on spending $10 at WF on pies, I'll spend it forward buying a homemade, with love and care pie, which will go towards a much more worthwhile cause! Cheers and enjoy whatever pie finds you can in good old Collingswood!
