Empire Talk Week 2: The Outspoken King (Fox TV)
By Le Anne Lindsay, Editor
So twitter was really hot during Empire last night. Looks like the show is catching on. It’s an all out crazy, fun, campy, black soap opera. Don’t come to it looking for quality programming, watch it for the sheer entertainment value alone!

Last night’s episode was actually directed by Lee Daniels, the series creator. Once again Cookie (Taraiji P. Henson) reigns supreme, putting her 2 cents or ($400,000) in everywhere. She just can’t leave Lucious (Terrance Howard) alone, barging into his home, his office, his head. She will not be ignored and it really threatens Lucious’ little light-skinned, right hand girl Anika (Grace Gealey) who throws some shade at Lucious’ Ex, but for the most part Cookie just deflects it and keeps moving, except for the elevator scene, where Cookie channels her inner Solange Knowles.

2. Hakeem makes a fool of himself at an upscale restaurant while hanging with his “entourage” one of which videotapes him exposing himself and calling President Obama a sell-out. The video of course goes viral and Lucious goes off on Hakeem. But I have a hard time believing the President would actually call Lucious looking for an apology.

3. One of Empire’s artist, Kid FoFo (Kristopher Lofton) is involved in a shooting which stirs up a controversy about rap lyrics inciting violence, all which threatens Empire’s IPO launch. Lucious goes on a news program to smooth the waters but with Cookies voice in his head, winds up defending rap: Where half of your family is locked off in prison. Our music is more of a narration of an oppressed people. You see, the Empire artists are telling the next generation that even though they live in a world where Trayvon Martin can get shot down like a dog without…
4. Later Lucious drops Kid FoFo from the Empire label, not because of the controversy but because he dissed Cookie.
5. We find out why Andre’s wife Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) was bringing him meds on episode 1, it’s because Andre (Trai Byers) is bipolar. We also see Rhonda wears the pants, while giving head.
#Empire Oh! Andre’s bipolar – they can take that in a number of spiraling directions! @JustTrai pic.twitter.com/C886Ljs73S

6. Last week Lucious killed long-time friend of the family Bunkie for causing trouble, extorting money and being disrespectful. This week we find out Bunkie was Cookie’s cousin. When Bunkie’s body is found, Lucious has to play it off like he’s grieving along with the rest of the family.
7. At the end we find out Cookie was not let out of prison early for good behavior, she’s actually working for the Feds and it’s about to get dangerous!
