Empire Talk Week 3: The Devil Quotes Scripture (FoxTV)
This week Empire was directed by Sanaa Hamri and gave us three guest appearances: Gladys Knight sung at Bunkie’s funeral in Philadelphia. Cuba Gooding, Jr. as Puma, a former songwriter turned rancher, who’s always held a soft spot for Cookie (Taraiji P. Henson). And Naomi Campbell as Camilla the Cougar, who we find out has been sleeping with young Hakeem (Bryshere Gray).

2. After Lucious dropped him last episode, Kid Fo-Fo signed with Creedmoor records, but in the press made it look like Creedmoor stole the rapper away from Empire. Lucious set his team on discrediting the rival record label.

3. Lucious also sets his son Andre (Trai Byers) to finding out if the police really have a credible eyewitness to Bunkie’s killer (himself) making on to his son that he just wants to be sure Bunkie’s killer comes to justice. Andre handles the task by sexing up female Deputy Mayor Alvarez in her office. His wife Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) confronts him about it, but not like you’d expect, she was turned on by his “investigative” tactics and they turn it into a game of role playing. (BTW if Kelly Ripa had a bad twin it would be Kaitlin/Rhonda)
4. Lucious feels the young singer Tianna (Serayah) is good for Hakeem personally and professionally and encourages the match by inviting her to a family dinner. He also invites Cookie who not only takes Anika’s seat at the head of the table but says grace, ending with “And God, please do not withhold your blessings… even from hoes who hire skanks to spy on me”.
5. Jamal (Jussie Smollett) is the after dinner entertainment, singing an old song of Puma’s which was bought by Lucious long ago, but he never recorded. While Jamal sings we see flashbacks of Cookie (hair half dyed blonde) and Lucious arguing about the song’s potential. At the end of Jamal’s performance Lucious admits the song is great with Jamal’s new arrangements and decides he’s gonna offer it to another singer, knowing full well Cookie and Jamal had plans for the song.

6. Lucious is starting to feel symptoms from his ALS and it’s getting harder to hide. Cookie suspects something’s wrong and before leaving his house says “you know you can’t hide from me.”
7. Lucious feeling a little badly about the song thing, comes over to Jamal’s apartment. Only matters get worse between father and son, as Jamal confronts Lucious about his homophobia and intolerance. “Since I was a baby, you beat me,” said Jamal. “You said it was to toughen me up, but that was a lie. You hate me,” Jamal screams at his father. He then drops the keys to the loft apt at Lucious feet, tells his lover Michael they are moving out (poor Michael didn’t know what to do) and while on the street vows to himself that he will take over Empire!
