Screening: Sunday, September 29th 3:50pm (PFS Bourse) – Tickets
Film Synopsis: Marco and Joanna enjoy an electric marriage, until Marco is witness to a series of events that lead him to suspect Joanna is having an affair with a co-worker. Starring Bob Celli (Gotham), Jennifer Plotzke (Blacklist), Dave Roberts (Blue Bloods), and Melissa Joyner (The Morning Show).
T&T: In a nutshell what was the main inspiration for Because I Love You and/or the theme that is the heart of your film?
Bob Celli: The initial idea for Because I Love you came to me after a discussion I had with friends about
communication and the danger of jumping to conclusions. What happens when everything you
think you know is shattered? Not too long after that conversation, I read a true story about a
relationship steeped in jealousy that took an unexpected turn. Because I Love You takes a hard
look at jealousy and how it can propel humans to act in ways that can change lives forever. Many
of us have been bitten by the “Green Monster” at one point or another, but we all have a choice
whether or not we act on our base instincts. The action you take defines you
T&T: Tell us a bit about the music (Who did you work with? What did you want to convey? Or any other tidbits)
Bob Celli: This is our third collaboration with our composer, Dave Fox. Dave quickly finds the tonal feel
of a project. I believe I said I wanted something Girl On A Train and every Hitchcock movie.
I know I wanted to use part of ‘Clair de lune’ by Debussy for a nice classical tone which
matches the aesthetic of the film generally. Dave did a great job playing around with that
juxtaposition of classical music and more modern sounds, to give the film that kind of
‘somethings a little off’ feel. The score was performed by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, which
adds such a full, rich sound.
T&T: What’s been the most memorable response you’ve received thus far from anyone after seeing your film?
Bob Celli: The response has been overwhelmingly positive and reviews have exceeded my expectations.
The theme of jealousy is universal, so everyone takes a different journey depending on how you
yourself either feel about or have encountered jealousy in your life. So, one could take the ride
and see this film as a thriller, suspense, drama, or dark comedy…or all four.
T&T: Give a quick shout out to your creative team and anyone who helped get your film from an idea to FirstGlance Film Festival
Bob Celli: As this is such a collaborative art, I could not have done it without my amazing team: Partner and co-producer, Brian D. Villano, Co-Producer Laura Delano; Producer Margaret Romolo-Zukor; Co Producers Iliana Guibert, and Sarah Ann Rodgers. My incredible cast: Jennifer Plotzke (Blacklist); Dave Roberts (Blue Bloods); Melissa Joyner (The Morning Show); and Iliana Guibert (Law & Order:SVU); and all our talented Background Artists. My production team: Cinematographer, Ken Kotowski and his crew: 1st. AC- Charlotte Azaceta; Sound – Robert O’Haire; Gaffers – Mike DiLorenzo and Alex Korpi; Key Grip – Tory Jadow; and Key Hair & Make-up –Andrea Saavedra. – And last but not least, to our amazing post production team Editor – Cecilia Jimenez; Colorist – Jordan Toussaint; Supervising Sound Editor – Patrick Hogan and his team; and our Composer – Dave Fox and his team; and a special shout out to the Budapest Scoring Orchestra.
T&T: Name 5 of your favorite films which influenced your desire to be a filmmaker?
Bob Celli: Always a tough question and this list is constantly changing. But, let’s go with these today:
Touch of Evil – Orson Welles
North by Northwest – Alfred Hitchcock
The Godfather – Francis Ford Coppola
Dog Day Afternoon – Sidney Lumet
Empire of the Sun – Steven Spielberg
