    Queen & Slim

    November 30, 2019 /

by Le Anne Lindsay, Editor Lena Waithe (Boomerang (TV Series) wrote this movie from a suggestion by “A Million Little Pieces” author James Frey. She explains as black people we have to make a decision on who we show up as in life – Martin Luther King or Malcolm X. I think that’s a bit overstated as it doesn’t leave any gray area, or should I say, medium brown 😉 but in terms of character creation I see her point. Queen (Jodie Turner-Smith) is a hard driving, cynical defense attorney. Slim (Daniel Kaluuya) is an easygoing, religious Costco employee. They meet on Tinder. She’d swiped left on him before, but…

    Brittany Runs a Marathon

    November 24, 2019 /

Hilarious, outgoing and always up for a good time, New Yorker Brittany Forgler (Jillian Bell)  is everybody’s best friend ― except maybe her own. At 27, her hard-partying ways, chronic underemployment and toxic relationships are catching up with her, but when she stops by a new doctor’s office to try to score some Adderall, she gets slapped with a prescription she never wanted: Get healthy. Too broke for a gym and too proud to ask for help, Brit is at a loss, until her seemingly together neighbor Catherine pushes her to lace up her Converse sneakers and run one sweaty block. The next day, she runs two. And soon, after…

    Marriage Story

    November 24, 2019 /

When asked to name my favorite director, a lot of filmmakers come to mind; However, when I boil it down to what I enjoy most in a movie – Thick with good dialogue, humor and empathy found in the big, small, uncomfortable and hard moments of life, quirky characters and unexpected silly scenes – I have to name Noah Baumbach as my favorite, because he always finds a way to deliver all that and more. In terms of families in process, we experienced the dysfunction of “The Squid and The Whale” and a couple going through mid-life crises in “While We’re Young” and now “Marriage Story” which is not about…

Introducing a.kiosk, the first-ever kiosk concierge service from a newsstand

    November 22, 2019 /

by Le Anne Linday, Editor The global luxury hotel residences AKA Rittenhouse Square (located at the corner of 18th and Walnut Streets) launched the first-ever kiosk concierge service from the sidewalk newsstand. What does this mean? Residents staying at AKA Rittenhouse Square (which just underwent an extensive renovation with refreshed interiors) can now indulge in newsstand candy bars and drinks by contacting the front desk.  The charge will be applied to the bill, and the doormen will deliver the goods.  It was the request from a world-renowned singer to stock his AKA suite with Diet Cokes and Snickers that gave Larry Korman, the visionary behind AKA, the leader in hotel residences, the…

    Motherless Brooklyn

    November 19, 2019 /

Well I think he was right to change the time period to 1950’s Noir, but at the same time, after the character Frank Minna (Bruce Willis) smirks his way to an early demise and Lionel (Edward Norton) starts his investigation, it soon becomes one of those “Maltese Falcon”/”Chinatown” type story that I tend to get bored following … Edward Norton is the writer/director/lead of #MotherlessBrooklyn, a passion project that took him 20 years to get to the screen, based on a 1999 novel by Jonathan Lethem. The story centers around solving the murder of Frank Minna, a private dick/hustler with a team of 4 misfit associates. His most loyal misfit…
